Gujarat Forms CID-Led Anti-Narcotics Task Force With Six Zonal Units

Overview

  • The government approved 177 new posts, expanding the former Narcotics Cell from 34 to 211 personnel, including one SP, six DySPs and 13 PIs.
  • Units will be established in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and the Kutch border range to cover key corridors.
  • The task force will focus exclusively on NDPS cases, supervise investigations registered at local police stations and target syndicates and inter-State offenders.
  • Officials said the approach aims for systematic probes and tougher penalties, with scope to use PIT-NDPS provisions for detention of accused.
  • Under CID Crime supervision, the force plans a dedicated data and intelligence capability to analyze repeat offenders and map networks.
