Gujarat ATS Arrests Three in Alleged Ricin Plot to Poison Water and Temple Prasad

A joint probe now centers on verifying ricin production alongside alleged ISKP links.

  • Police say Hyderabad-based Dr Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed and two men from Uttar Pradesh planned to extract ricin to contaminate public water and temple prasad in Delhi, Ahmedabad and Lucknow.
  • Investigators recovered about four litres of castor-derived material along with three pistols and 30–35 live cartridges from a car intercepted near the Adalaj toll plaza in Gujarat.
  • ATS sources report the accused conducted reconnaissance at Delhi’s Azadpur mandi, Ahmedabad’s Naroda fruit market and an RSS office in Lucknow, and that two of them also travelled to Kashmir for recce.
  • Authorities allege contacts with an operative known as Abu Khadija linked to ISKP and say the doctor awaited directions from a Pakistan-based handler, with reported drone-delivered arms under scrutiny.
  • The trio has been booked under UAPA as central agencies assess whether ricin was actually produced, evaluate intended delivery methods and map any wider network exploring bioterror tactics.
