Guirassy Cut as CAF Names Salah, Hakimi and Osimhen Finalists for African Footballer of the Year

The winner will be announced on 19 November in Rabat following a final cut that excluded 2024 runner-up Serhou Guirassy.

CAF confirmed a top three of Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Achraf Hakimi (PSG) and Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray) from an earlier ten-man shortlist.
Guirassy, who had made the expanded list, was left out of the final trio after a recent dip in form reported by local media.
His brother criticized the omission on Instagram, calling the decision "a damn shame," as the forward faces the ceremony as a spectator.
Salah is a two-time winner (2017, 2018) and Osimhen won in 2023, while Hakimi would collect the honor for the first time if selected.
CAF will also present other awards, including best female player and men's coach, with Bubista, Walid Regragui and Mohamed Ouahbi shortlisted for the coaching prize.
