Buk Mawut Buk pleads guilty to the murder of University of Utah football player Aaron Lowe and attempted murder of another woman, stemming from a 2021 incident.
The guilty plea comes over two years after the fatal shooting at a house party in Salt Lake City, with sentencing scheduled for April 29.
In exchange for his plea, additional charges including obstruction of justice and possession of a weapon by a restricted person were dismissed.
Lowe's death occurred less than a year after his teammate Ty Jordan died from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound, deepening the tragedy for the University of Utah football team.
Buk, who has an extensive violent criminal history, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years to life in Utah State Prison.
