Gucci Beauty License Moves to L'Oréal One Year Early

The accelerated handover is designed to combine Gucci’s creative appeal with L’Oréal’s distribution power to speed growth and ensure an orderly operational transition.

Overview

  • Kering, Coty and L'Oréal struck an agreement announced July 7 to bring the 50‑year exclusive Gucci beauty licence forward so L'Oréal can assume control around July 1, 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
  • Coty will receive about $400 million for the early redemption, with $250 million paid at signing and up to $150 million to follow in 2027, including up to $30 million contingent on criteria.
  • Under the plan Coty will continue to operate Gucci Beauty through June 30, 2027, sell selected inventory to Kering to support the handover, and deliver a phased transition of supply and distribution.
  • L'Oréal will cover roughly 70 percent of Kering’s early redemption costs and inventory expenses, and Coty and Kering have agreed to mutually resolve all pending litigation to enable an orderly transfer.
  • The move builds on the Kering–L'Oréal alliance completed in March and gives L'Oréal Luxe a long‑term growth asset, but the transfer still depends on customary regulatory approvals and smooth operational steps.
