Guardia Civil Seizes 112.33 Kilos of Illegal Red Shrimp in Santa Pola

Sanction files are now before regional fisheries, public health and the Santa Pola council.

Overview

  • SEPRONA officers in Elche cited a 49-year-old who operated an unauthorized warehouse and was responsible for a fishing vessel.
  • During a December 5 inspection, agents found two buyers at the site and uncovered stock that had not been presented for first sale at the lonja or recorded in the ship’s log.
  • The shrimp lacked required labeling and supply-chain traceability, and the owner could not show authorization to store such products.
  • Part of the 112.33-kilo haul was fresh and the rest frozen, and the entire lot was immobilized and placed at the disposal of competent authorities.
  • Guardia Civil advised holiday shoppers to check labeling, use trusted retailers, and be wary of improvised sellers or unusually low prices.
