Guardia Civil Dismantles Illegal Psychedelic Retreat in Pedreguer

Authorities charged eight people following raids that yielded ayahuasca, San Pedro cactus, Kambó secretions alongside a makeshift brew lab

Overview

  • Three alleged organizers have been remanded and five spiritual guides face formal imputations for drug trafficking, money laundering and criminal organisation membership.
  • Agents seized 11 litres of prepared ayahuasca, 117 San Pedro cacti, multiple bottles of Kambó secretions, seven kilos of mimosa and 368 kilos of harmal seeds alongside 945 Ritalin pills, cash and documentation.
  • The operation comprised searches at two rural fincas and a chalet in Pedreguer carried out by the Guardia Civil’s Equipo ROCA de Calpe with support from the Comandancia de Alicante and overseen by the Juzgado de Instrucción nº1 de Dénia.
  • Investigators estimate the group generated several hundred thousand euros in the past year, largely in undeclared cash concealed through numerous foreign bank accounts.
  • Officials warned that the substances were produced in a rudimentary, unhygienic home laboratory and administered by untrained staff to groups of up to 20 participants, creating serious public health risks.
