Guardia Civil Dismantles Cross-Strait Drone Ring, Arrests Nine in Cádiz

A court in Algeciras opened the probe after unidentified cross‑Strait drone flights were detected, with support from Morocco, Europol.

Overview

  • Investigators say the group launched up to ten fixed‑wing drones before dawn from Alcalá de los Gazules, releasing loads near Vejer and Tarifa for nocturnal pickup using geolocation beacons and fluorescent markers.
  • Five searches on 10 November in Alcalá de los Gazules, Vejer, Algeciras and San Roque led to further arrests, with nine suspects now detained under Court No. 4 of Algeciras.
  • Seizures included more than 150 kilograms of hashish, €320,000 in cash, eight operational drones, ten more under assembly and a fully equipped modification workshop.
  • The airframes, sourced from Asian suppliers, were reworked locally to boost range, resilience and payload, with flights documented at over 200 kilometers.
  • On 22 October officers intercepted a vehicle carrying 57.2 kilograms of hashish after a pursuit in which several agents were injured, including one who required surgery.
