GST Cut on Big-Screen TVs Takes Effect as Sony, LG and Panasonic Slash Prices

Lower MRPs are intended to spur festive-season upgrades to larger screens.

  • The GST rate on televisions over 32 inches has been reduced from 28% to 18% effective September 22, aligning with the start of Navratri.
  • Manufacturers have issued new MRPs with reductions of roughly Rs 2,500 to Rs 85,800 and they expect the festive period to lift sales through upsizing and bundled audio buys.
  • Sony India has cut BRAVIA prices by Rs 5,000 to Rs 71,000 across 43- to 98-inch models, including the 43-inch now at Rs 54,900 and the 98-inch BRAVIA 5 down to Rs 8.29 lakh from Rs 9 lakh.
  • LG has announced reductions from Rs 2,500 to Rs 85,800, with the 43-inch now Rs 28,490 and the 100-inch model lowered to Rs 4,99,790 from Rs 5,85,590.
  • Panasonic’s price cuts range from about Rs 3,000 to Rs 32,000, including 43-inch models revised to Rs 33,990, Rs 45,990 and Rs 54,290, 55-inch sets down by Rs 7,000, and a 75-inch model reduced to Rs 3.68 lakh from Rs 4 lakh.
