GST 2.0 Timed With Navratri Lifts India’s Auto Retail; September Up 5.2%: FADA

Rate cuts under GST 2.0, effective Sept. 22, unlocked deferred purchases during Navratri, dealers say.

  • Navratri-period registrations jumped about 34% to 1,156,935 units, with passenger vehicles up roughly 35% to 217,744 and two-wheelers near 35% to 835,364.
  • Full-month passenger vehicle retails reached 299,369 units (up about 5.8% YoY) and two-wheelers 1,287,735 (up about 6.5% YoY).
  • FADA said the first three weeks of September were subdued as buyers waited for GST 2.0, with demand accelerating after the new rates took effect on Sept. 22.
  • Dealers report passenger-vehicle inventories near 60 days for the Diwali peak, and they flag logistics and supply continuity as crucial to sustain momentum, while EV penetration rose to roughly 5.1% in PVs and 8.1% in two-wheelers.
