GSA Seals OneGov Deal to Offer Musk’s Grok AI to Federal Agencies for 42 Cents

GSA says its safety review cleared Grok 4 for government use under agency guidelines.

Overview

  • The agreement runs through March 2027 and lets agencies buy Grok 4 and Grok 4 Fast for $0.42 per organization, with purchasing available immediately through GSA channels.
  • xAI will assign dedicated engineers, deliver training, and provide upgrade paths to enterprise subscriptions aligned with FedRAMP and Department of Defense impact levels.
  • GSA’s AI safety team, supported by data scientists, analyzed Grok models and determined Grok 4 can be used within established guidelines, with ongoing monitoring and benchmarks.
  • The offer is the longest-term and among the lowest-cost under the OneGov strategy, joining discounted deals from OpenAI and Anthropic at $1 and Google at about $0.47, alongside Meta and others.
  • The decision follows earlier incidents in which Grok produced antisemitic and extremist outputs, prompting red-teaming and a temporary federal pause, and advocacy groups and some lawmakers continue to call for stricter oversight.
