GRSE Launches Final ASW Shallow-Water Craft, Completing Its Contract

The event marks the delivery phase's end by boosting India's littoral anti-submarine defenses.

Overview

  • On July 21, 2025, GRSE launched Ajay, the eighth and final Arnala-class anti-submarine warfare shallow-water craft under its ₹6,311 crore deal.
  • The Kolkata ceremony was presided over by Vice Admiral Kiran Deshmukh and featured Priya Deshmukh as the launching dignitary.
  • Each 77.6 metre vessel features a low-draught hull, lightweight torpedoes, ASW rockets, mines and coordinated aircraft operation capabilities.
  • Built to Indian Register of Shipping standards through a PPP with Larsen & Toubro, the crafts boast over 80% indigenous content.
  • These ships will replace aging Abhay-class corvettes and strengthen the Indian Navy’s coastal submarine detection and neutralization in the Indian Ocean Region.
