GRP Probes ₹5.4–₹5.53 Crore Gold Theft From AC First Class on Siddheshwar Express

Investigators suspect a planned operation by thieves familiar with premium coaches.

Overview

  • The theft occurred overnight on December 6–7 between Solapur and Kalyan as a Mumbai jeweller traveled with his 21-year-old daughter.
  • Two trolley bags kept under their berths went missing, with police stating the securing chain was broken while the passengers slept.
  • About 4.456–4.7 kg of jewellery valued near ₹5.4–₹5.53 crore was in the luggage, including assorted ornaments listed by the complainant.
  • An FIR was registered under BNS Section 305(c) after the victim alerted the TTE and railway emergency helpline and then approached Kalyan GRP.
  • Three Kalyan GRP teams are reviewing CCTV, passenger manifests and staff details along the route, and no arrests have been made so far.
