Overview
- The annual ceremony will be held Monday, Feb. 2, at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, about 80 miles from Pittsburgh.
- Festivities start around 3 a.m., and Phil is expected to emerge near sunrise at approximately 7:07 a.m.
- The event is free to attend with early entry to the grounds, and shuttle buses run from multiple town stops starting at 3 a.m. with $5 passes and free rides for children 12 and under.
- The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club's Inner Circle oversees the pageantry and presents Phil for the shadow-based forecast of either six more weeks of winter or an early spring.
- The tradition traces to Candlemas and continues to draw large crowds, including more than 30,000 attendees in 2025 when Phil saw his shadow.
