Overview

  • UGT-organised strikes at Azul Handling will run in three daily slots from August 15 through December 31, while Menzies staff will strike on weekends 16-17, 23-24 and 30-31 of August.
  • The Ministry of Transport has set service minimums at 76% for international and non-peninsular flights, 60% for domestic peninsular routes with over-five-hour alternatives and 36% for shorter domestic journeys.
  • Azul Handling workers are protesting for stable contracts and against imposed extra hours and sanctions, while Menzies staff demand unpaid wages and enforcement of subrogation agreements.
  • Despite the minimum service rules, carriers and airports are activating contingency plans for likely delays and cancellations at up to 27 airports, including Barcelona-El Prat and Málaga-Costa del Sol.
  • Under EU regulations, affected passengers are entitled to care, reimbursement or re-routing and compensation of €250-€600 unless airlines successfully claim extraordinary circumstances.
