Police say the trail system can connect to trails near Marvel Lake, shown in this file photo, and the trail network between Sunshine Mountain, Banff and Mount Shark in Kananaskis.

Overview

  • Chad Singer, a 42-year-old paramedic from Radium, B.C., has been missing since July 23 after separating from his companion at Marvel Pass.
  • Parks Canada’s Banff Field Unit is leading the operation with support from RCMP, deploying ground crews, K-9 units and aerial reconnaissance.
  • Helicopters equipped with thermal-imaging scanners have been conducting visual sweeps over steep and forested terrain without turning up any new leads.
  • Search efforts have widened to interconnected routes spanning Aurora Creek, Sunshine Mountain and trails toward Mount Shark and Marvel Lake.
  • Authorities warn that the park’s complex trail network and challenging topography are prolonging the search as it enters its third day.
