Groton Officers Pull Man From Icy Marina Waters as Body Camera Captures Rescue

Police say the friend returned after a missed check-in text, then called 911.

  • Police said the victim had been in the water about 15 minutes and was losing feeling in his limbs when responders arrived.
  • The first officer reached the icy dock, held the man’s wrist to keep him afloat and requested additional units.
  • Officers and the friend cleared ice and pulled him onto the dock, with Noank Fire, Groton Long Point police and fire, Mystic River Ambulance and Groton Ambulance assisting.
  • The man was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London with injuries described as non-life-threatening, and police released body-camera video of the rescue.
