Grönemeyer Launches Sold-Out Unplugged Run With Orchestral Opener in Dortmund

The Dortmund opener drew about 15,000 fans with orchestral Unplugged arrangements on a center-stage setup.

Overview

  • Herbert Grönemeyer kicked off the ‘mittendrin – akustisch’ series with a high‑energy, more than two‑hour set that mixed classics and deep cuts in new acoustic versions.
  • He performed on a stage in the middle of the Westfalenhalle with his band, orchestral musicians and members of the Rundfunkchor Berlin supporting the arrangements.
  • All seven dates are sold out, with five shows in Dortmund followed by two at Berlin’s Velodrom on September 11 and 12.
  • The Dortmund residency is part of the Westfalenhalle’s 100th‑anniversary celebrations, which Grönemeyer called an honor, likening the venue to the Madison Square Garden of the Ruhrgebiet.
  • Deutsche Bahn is broadcasting his recorded greeting at Dortmund Hauptbahnhof on concert days between 16:00 and 19:00 about every five minutes, as the run previews his Unplugged album ‘Von allem anders’ due October 17 for roughly 90,000 attendees.
