Greggs Raises Breakfast Prices as Growth Cools and Shares Jump

The bakery says higher wages plus a £20m employer national insurance hit forced the move.

Overview

  • From Thursday, the two-part breakfast deal rises from £2.95 to £3.15 and the three-part deal from £3.95 to £4.15, with select bakes up 5p.
  • Third-quarter sales rose 6.1% year on year, while like-for-like growth in company-managed shops slowed to about 1.5%.
  • Management said July’s heat suppressed demand, with trading improving in August and September.
  • Shares climbed roughly 7–8% after the update as investors reacted to the sales recovery.
  • Greggs has opened 57 net shops year to date and now expects about 120 net new openings in 2025, and the CEO urged the government to avoid policy surprises in the autumn Budget.
