Greg Moore’s 1998 Rio 400 Helmet Stolen From B.C. Sports Hall of Fame

Public tips are sought to recover the irreplaceable loan from Moore’s parents following a police report.

Overview

  • Staff discovered the helmet missing on Wednesday, Sept. 3, from a mannequin beside Moore’s IndyCar at the Vancouver museum.
  • The item is the helmet Moore wore in his 1998 Rio 400 victory and had been on permanent loan from his parents, Ric and Donna.
  • The Hall reported the theft to Vancouver Police and released a suspect description: a man in a black hat, black pants, blue shirt, grey jacket, white shoes, carrying a burgundy sports bag.
  • Curator Jason Beck called the helmet a deeply personal and irreplaceable piece of Canadian sports history, and Moore’s father said its loss is like losing a part of Greg.
  • The Hall and police urge anyone with information or who recognizes the helmet to contact Vancouver Police or the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame as the investigation continues.
