Greenpeace Reports Rise in Davos Private Jets, Demands Ban Before WEF 2026

The group points to 709 excess 2025 flights with many routes feasible by train.

Overview

  • A T3 analysis for Greenpeace found 709 excess private-jet movements during the 2025 WEF week, up from 628 in 2024.
  • About 70% of the trips were short intra-European routes that could be completed within a day by rail.
  • Private jets emit roughly 10 times the greenhouse gases per passenger of commercial flights and about 50 times that of trains.
  • Most flights originated in France (~20%), followed by the UK (~12.8%) and Germany (~12.3%), based on data from seven airports serving Davos.
  • Greenpeace calls for an outright ban on extremely polluting private flights and higher taxes on the super-rich ahead of the Jan. 19–23 forum, which expects around 3,000 participants including President Donald Trump and Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
