Greene King Names Clair Preston-Beer as First Female CEO

CK Asset Holdings backed the appointment as the new chief plans to prioritise data and AI to improve pub operations.

Overview

  • Greene King announced on Monday that Clair Preston-Beer will become chief executive at the end of February or early March 2027 as part of a planned handover.
  • Nick Mackenzie will step down as CEO after nearly eight years but will remain on Greene King’s board to support the transition.
  • Preston-Beer is currently Greene King’s chief digital and commercial officer and joined the business in 2020 after a senior role at Whitbread where she helped scale Costa Coffee.
  • She has said the group will prioritise investment in data and artificial intelligence to make pubs easier to run, personalise customer experience, and improve decision making.
  • The succession comes as owner CK Asset Holdings maintains oversight while Greene King continues a multi-year restructure that includes plans to separate about 300 managed pubs, sell beer brands, and replace its Westgate Brewery; the group runs roughly 2,500 sites and employs about 38,000 people.
