Green Surges as Neutral Tones Continue to Dominate Germany’s 2025 New-Car Choices

Many buyers choose widely used shades to protect resale value, according to the auto industry group’s analysis of registration data.

Overview

  • VDA analysis of KBA registrations through November 2025 shows grey/silver, black and white at 77.8% of new cars, roughly two million vehicles.
  • Green exceeded 100,000 registrations (100,715), its strongest tally in more than two decades, and accounted for 3.9% of the market after a 26.5% year-over-year jump.
  • Blue remained the top non-neutral choice with 267,075 registrations, with red at 101,706 narrowly ahead of green.
  • Within the neutral palette, grey/silver and white lost share from early 2024 levels, while black gained slightly and the overall neutral share eased from 79.5% to 77.8%.
  • The counts are based on VDA’s reading of KBA data through November and could be revised when full-year figures are finalized.
