Greece to Launch Government-Run App for Parental Control and Age Verification

The Greek government announced the Kids Wallet app, designed to enhance parental controls and verify users' ages online, as part of a broader strategy to address youth internet addiction.
The app will be integrated with an existing government platform and will use advanced algorithms to monitor usage and enforce strict authentication processes.
A survey by KMOP revealed that 76.6% of children aged 9-12 access the internet on personal devices, with 22.8% encountering inappropriate content, highlighting the need for such measures.
The government plans to pre-install the app on smartphones sold in Greece by the end of 2025, despite criticism from some digital rights and religious groups.
This initiative goes beyond existing European regulations, aiming to hold social media platforms accountable for enforcing age controls and improving online safety.
