Greater Manchester Police Charge Two Edenfield Centre Staff Over Alleged Patient Ill-Treatment

The charges follow a 2022 police probe triggered by BBC Panorama filming at the Prestwich mental health unit.

Overview

  • Support worker Sheryl Price is charged with 14 counts of ill-treatment and nurse Sara Coleman is charged with five, each involving four alleged victims.
  • Both defendants have been bailed to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 25 March 2026.
  • Police say the case stems from undercover footage recorded by BBC Panorama, and they are inviting anyone with concerns to contact officers or Crimestoppers.
  • The Edenfield Centre is run by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, which an NHS England-commissioned review in January 2024 found had leadership and workforce failings across the service.
  • The review made 11 recommendations, the trust’s chief executive issued an apology and set out an improvement plan, and the unit has since been renamed the Riverside Centre.
