Greater Buenos Aires Construction Costs Rise 1.6% in October

INDEC links the increase to policy-driven adjustments rather than market price moves.

Overview

  • The Construction Cost Index rose 1.6% in October, with Materials up 2.1%, Labor up 1.3% and General Expenses up 1.6%, according to INDEC.
  • On a 12‑month basis the index advanced 29.9%, with a 18.4% accumulation from January through October.
  • Regulator‑approved changes fed into overheads, including ENRE’s tariff updates for Edenor and Edesur, water and sewer charges set by the Public Works Secretariat, and Enargas adjustments for gas connections.
  • Selected inputs posted sharper monthly gains, notably granite countertops (+8.3%), electrical cables and conductors (+4.9%), glass (+4.0%) and certain carpentry items and gas appliances (around +3%).
  • The Labor component reflected UOCRA’s wage agreement signed on September 29 and homologated on October 3, including a non‑remunerative extraordinary allocation and an impact on the “Sereno” item within General Expenses.
