Great White Shark Kills 22-Year-Old Fisherman in Mexico

Victim, identified as Víctor Alejandro Soto García, was not wearing a shark repellent bracelet at the time of the attack.

22-year-old Víctor Alejandro Soto García was killed by a great white shark while diving for scallops off the coast of Mexico.
The incident occurred on December 29, near Playa Tojahui, a beach in the town of Huatabampo, Sonora state.
García was not wearing an anti-shark repellent bracelet at the time of the attack.
Five other fishermen were killed by sharks off the coast of Sonora in 2022 and 2023.
Shark repellents, which emit electronic signals or chemicals to deter sharks, were distributed to local fishermen in Sonora state last year.
