Overview

  • Great British Energy has disbursed £10m in grants to mayoral authorities for solar, battery and EV charging installations on care homes, leisure centres, libraries, fire and police stations.
  • Projects span Merseyside, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, Cambridgeshire and the East Midlands and mark the first expansion beyond March’s schools and NHS solar scheme.
  • Officials project annual energy bill savings of about £1m and lifetime reductions of £35m for public services across the funded sites.
  • The deployments are expected to enhance local energy security, generate skilled jobs and support the UK government’s net-zero ambitions.
  • These awards follow a £180m March programme that installed rooftop solar on around 200 schools and NHS facilities.
