Overview

  • A federal grand jury indicted Boelter on July 15 on six counts, including two murder charges, two stalking counts and two weapons violations.
  • Prosecutors publicly unsealed his handwritten letter to FBI Director Kash Patel, in which he alleges orders from Gov. Tim Walz to kill U.S. senators and describes secret military missions.
  • Authorities have dismissed the confession’s claims as unfounded delusions and continue to investigate Boelter’s motivations and lone-actor status.
  • Boelter remains in federal custody awaiting arraignment on September 12, where he is expected to plead not guilty.
  • His federal murder charges carry potential capital punishment even though Minnesota abolished the death penalty in 1911.
