Grand Jury Indicts Louisville Man in Two Additional Killings, Linking Him to Three Homicides

Prosecutors say the new counts connect him to two other shootings, including one that led to a fetal-homicide charge.

Overview

  • Deonize Lee Jr., 22, was indicted by a Jefferson County Grand Jury on two murder counts while already jailed in a separate homicide case.
  • Lee remains held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $1,000,000 bond after his Aug. 16 arrest in the fatal shooting of his stepfather, Jeremy Thomas, in St. Matthews.
  • The new indictments tie Lee to the Aug. 13 killing of 28-year-old Jermia Offutt on West Broadway; Offutt was four months pregnant, prompting a fetal-homicide charge.
  • Prosecutors also linked Lee to the July 2023 shooting death of 23-year-old Mozell Johnson near Wilson Avenue and 22nd Street in the Park Hill neighborhood.
  • St. Matthews Police Chief Barry Wilkerson said Lee cooperated at the time of his arrest, while victims’ families called for justice and stronger community action to curb gun violence.
