Overview
- President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi led the inauguration at the Giza plateau as 79 official delegations, including monarchs and heads of state and government, attended.
- The museum holds over 100,000 artifacts and, for the first time, displays more than 5,000 objects from Tutankhamun’s assemblage in one place.
- Key facilities include a children’s museum, an international-standard conservation center, exhibition halls, a conference venue, landscaped grounds, and the Khufu boats display.
- The ceremony featured fireworks, ancient Egyptian chants, drone light shows, and a symbolic moment in which Sisi placed the final model piece labeled “Egypt.”
- Tourism Minister Sherif Fathy called the opening a “historic” moment and projected around 18 million visitors this year, while Sisi publicly thanked Japan for its support during the project.
