Overview
- On Oct. 1, access will resume to Cape Royal Road, a section of Highway 67 to the W1 road, Fire Point and Swamp Ridge, plus the Cape Royal, Cliff Spring, Cape Final, and Roosevelt Point trails and a roughly 3-mile Ken Patrick Trail segment.
- Day-use hours apply, with limited overnight use only at Fire Point and Swamp Ridge through Nov. 30 or the first snowfall.
- Large portions of the North Rim remain closed for rehabilitation, including the North Kaibab Trail.
- Visitors should expect no power, running water, cell service, fuel, or visitor services, with hazards that include dead standing trees, flash-flood risk, and active suppression repair work.
- Officials report the fire is 100% contained after burning about 145,000 acres; the Grand Canyon Lodge was destroyed, 106 of 229 buildings were damaged or lost, and the Forest Service will reopen just over 25,000 additional acres north of the park, bringing access to nearly 90% of the North Kaibab Ranger District.
