Overview

  • Rafael Domingo Sánchez, until now chief of the Local Police in Jaén, was named head of Granada’s Local Police on June 6 and will assume the role on June 12, 2025.
  • The move is part of a broader effort by Mayor Marifrán Carazo’s administration to rebuild public trust after the resignation of José Manuel Martínez Avilés.
  • Martínez Avilés stepped down on February 19 over alleged exam rigging for police recruitment, and the case remains under a court-ordered secrecy order.
  • Sánchez holds a degree in Legal Sciences, has led the Jaén force since 2013, and has served as an instructor at the Andalusian Institute of Public Security and the Linares Security School.
  • His appointment followed a competitive selection process that received three candidacies from intendentes across Andalusia.
