Granada Activates Low-Emission Zone With Automatic Camera Enforcement

A residency-based scheme that exempts locally registered vehicles has prompted a court challenge from neighboring Armilla.

Overview

  • Sanctions begin 1 October for unauthorized entries across most of Granada, with non-resident drivers needing DGT B, C, ECO or 0 labels to enter.
  • Vehicles registered in Granada are exempt from label limits; motorcycles are included, and license plates are read automatically at access points.
  • Exceptions cover trips to hospitals, duty pharmacies, courts and workshops, or parking for over an hour, with roughly 1,000 vehicles on a white list versus an estimated 32,000 initially at risk.
  • Fines will be phased in: a single maximum sanction per offender in October, one per week in November and full per-violation penalties from December.
  • Reus begins a two-month notification phase on 1 October ahead of fines from 1 December, reflecting national requirements and Catalonia’s timetable to curb B-label cars starting in 2026.
