Gran Canaria Jet Ski Rider Found Alive After Two Days Adrift

A multi-agency search located him by air ahead of his transfer to Arguineguín for treatment.

  • He was identified as 27-year-old Layonel Ramírez Collado, missing since Monday night after jumping in to recover a jet ski that detached near the Juan Grande power plant.
  • Salvamento Marítimo’s Sasemar 103 aircraft sighted him at about 11:30 local time roughly 15 nautical miles southwest of Arguineguín.
  • Guardamar Urania, with support from Helimer 215 and Red Cross teams, recovered him and brought him to port before an ambulance took him to a hospital.
  • Emergency services reported he was conscious with moderate dehydration and sunburn, along with chest and back discomfort from hours on the craft.
  • Authorities have opened an investigation into what occurred on the boat before his disappearance, and his companions have so far declined to cooperate.
