GP Found Dead at Dersingham Home as Suspect Held for Extended Questioning

Forensics and extra custody time are under way as detectives work to establish how the woman died and ask the public for information.

  • Police and ambulance crews were called to a house on Fern Hill in Dersingham in the early hours of Sunday, 4 October, where a woman in her 40s was pronounced dead and a murder inquiry was opened.
  • A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and remains in custody after officers obtained a warrant from Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court that allows an extra 32 hours of detention for questioning.
  • Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team detectives have put a cordon in place at the property and forensic teams are carrying out scene examinations as inquiries continue.
  • The deceased has been named locally as GP Hannah Cain, known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry, and Grimston Medical Centre has closed temporarily while staff and patients are supported; children who were at the house were returned to their families.
