Thomas Kwan, a GP, is on trial for allegedly attempting to murder his mother's partner, Patrick O'Hara, with a poisonous injection.
The prosecution claims Kwan disguised himself as a community nurse and used a fake NHS letter to gain access to O'Hara.
Kwan's alleged motive was to remove O'Hara as an obstacle to inheriting his mother's estate, as O'Hara was named in her will.
O'Hara suffered from necrotising fasciitis, a life-threatening disease, after receiving the injection and spent weeks in intensive care.
Kwan has admitted to administering a noxious substance but denies charges of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm with intent.
