Overview
- From October 1, all GP surgeries must implement the You and Your General Practice charter mandated by NHS England.
- Practices will collect brief clinical details with each request made by phone, online, in person or via the NHS App to enable triage.
- Each request must receive a response within one working day setting out the next step, replacing instructions to simply call back the next day.
- Outcomes after triage may include a same-day or next-day appointment, a remote consultation, or advice to use a pharmacy or another NHS service.
- Some surgeries began total triage trials on September 1 to troubleshoot before the rollout, according to GP Tim Mercer.
