Goyal Moves to Bar Heavy Vehicles During WEH Peak Hours, Orders Flyover Resurfacing

The directives follow a five-hour inter-agency review in Borivali to ease chronic Western Express Highway congestion.

Overview

  • Traffic police have been told to prepare a peak-hour ban on most heavy vehicles on the Western Express Highway, with stickers to identify 108 metro-construction trucks and exemptions for BMC garbage vehicles.
  • Additional traffic personnel will be deployed during rush hours as authorities finalize formal orders for enforcing the heavy-vehicle restrictions.
  • Piyush Goyal directed resurfacing of MSRDC flyovers at Aarey, Vakola and Vikhroli to smooth traffic flow along the corridor.
  • Seventy-nine public toilets along the corridor are being refurbished, with 58 blocks under major repairs and 21 under minor work, and private agencies assigned for upkeep.
  • Officials were instructed to inspect and fix water pipelines by month-end, ready DPRs to rejuvenate 10 lakes via PPP, crack down on wetland and mangrove encroachments, and blacklist developers delaying handovers or occupancy certificates.
