Overview
- GovTech rolled out the FirstDate pilot in late September, opening applications through Oct. 5 for public officers aged 21 to 35 to sign up with their Singpass accounts.
- The service gives each user one algorithmic match per matchmaking cycle using the Gale-Shapley stable‑matching method and sends both people a text with 72 hours to accept.
- Profiles are visible only to assigned matches and contact details are exchanged only if both parties agree, with a short post‑date survey collecting feedback on whether the pair met in person.
- GovTech says user data will meet government security standards, will not be sold, and can be deactivated or deleted on request; the pilot also offers ‘Date Quests’ and may provide vouchers that can cover a first date during promotions.
- The experiment responds to Singapore’s record-low fertility and a drop in births, builds on past state matchmaking efforts, and will determine whether the scheme expands beyond the civil service if it changes dating behaviour.
