Overview

• Governor La. Ganesan died at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, at 6:23 pm on 15 August from a catastrophic intracerebral hemorrhage sustained in a fall on 8 August.
• His mortal remains were kept at his T. Nagar residence for public and political tributes before cremation in Chennai with full state honours on 16 August.
• Nagaland government declared a seven-day state mourning from 16 to 22 August with the national flag at half-mast and suspension of official entertainment.
• President Droupadi Murmu appointed Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to discharge Nagaland's gubernatorial functions to maintain administrative continuity.
• Condolences poured in from across the political spectrum, including President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and other national and state leaders.
