  • Mary Simon announced 83 new appointees on July 1 to the Order of Canada, one of the largest annual inductions to the nation’s cornerstone honours system.
  • Professor Mahesh Chandra Sharma of Concordia University was named a Member for his civic philanthropy and for establishing scholarships in memory of four family members lost in the 1985 Air India Flight 182 bombing.
  • Dr. Saroj Saigal, professor emerita at McMaster University, was appointed an Officer in recognition of her pioneering qualitative research on extremely premature infants and contributions to neonatology.
  • Dr. Theresa Tam and Dr. Bonnie Henry were both made Officers for their leadership as Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer and British Columbia’s provincial health officer during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Since its founding in 1967, the Order of Canada has honoured more than 8,200 individuals for sustained excellence and service across diverse sectors.
