Government Tells Parliament Maoist Grip Reduced to 5 States, 11 Districts as Incidents Drop 89% Since 2010

The Home Ministry cites a combined security and development strategy with an eradication goal of March 31, 2026.

Overview

  • Annual Maoist-related incidents declined from 1,936 in 2010 to 218 in 2025, with deaths falling from 1,005 to 93, according to data presented in Lok Sabha.
  • Areas under influence narrowed from 10 states and 126 districts to five states and 11 districts, with only three now classified as most affected.
  • Since 2019, security forces have neutralised 29 senior Maoist leaders, including 14 Central Committee and Politburo members this year.
  • Through December 1, 2025, officials report 335 Maoists killed, 942 arrested and 2,167 surrendered under intensified operations.
  • To prevent resurgence, the Centre retains support in 27 ‘Legacy & Thrust’ districts under the SRE scheme, has 574 CAPF companies deployed, and offers financial incentives for surrenders.
