Government Recasts Cabinet Powers, Returning RENAPER and Sports to Interior

The reshuffle is designed to strengthen Santilli’s hand in negotiations over the 2026 budget plus a reforms package with provincial leaders.

Overview

  • Tourism and Environment will shift to the Cabinet Chief’s orbit under Manuel Adorni, while Sports moves to Interior under Diego Santilli, with a decree being prepared and pending final sign-off.
  • After an earlier change labeled an error, the government plans to restore RENAPER to Interior, keep Migraciones under Security, and return oversight of border crossing centers to Interior.
  • Santilli selected Gustavo Coria as his deputy at Interior, a choice not yet formalized, which triggers Fernanda Coitinho’s entry to the Buenos Aires legislature and increases Sebastián Pareja’s influence.
  • During a stop in Mendoza, Santilli met governors Alfredo Cornejo, Marcelo Orrego, Raúl Jalil and Carlos Sadir to build support for Budget 2026 and reforms, as the Boletín Oficial published authorization for a US$75 million FonPlata water loan to the province.
  • Santilli requested a parliamentary liaison area inside Interior to manage congressional talks, while Patricia Bullrich’s push to draw PRO lawmakers toward La Libertad Avanza adds political crosscurrents.
