Government, PPP Advance 27th Amendment Talks as PTI Rejects Proposal

Officials say a formal draft is pending with changes to follow stakeholder consensus.

Overview

  • Minister of State for Law Barrister Aqeel Malik said no formal draft exists for the proposed 27th constitutional amendment, describing ongoing discussions on a constitutional court, judges’ transfers and central curriculum, and citing a possible Article 243 change to codify a Field Marshal rank.
  • PTI leader Asad Qaiser publicly rejected the proposal, warning against altering the NFC award or undermining judicial independence and offering to discuss constitutional restoration and the NFC with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
  • Prime Minister’s adviser Rana Sanaullah said consultations have just begun, argued that consensus is a prerequisite for any bill, and framed a constitutional court as a long-discussed reform rather than a threat to democracy.
  • DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Choudhary warned of a potential Indian maritime false-flag operation, alleged Afghan involvement in cross-border terrorism, and denied any U.S. strikes being launched from Pakistani territory.
  • The government has assured the IMF it will publish a Governance and Corruption Diagnosis before November 15, a step finance sources say is needed to unlock a roughly $1.2 billion tranche expected to go to the Executive Board in December.
