Overview
- The Ministry of Labour said it expects to publish the implementing decree on Monday, Nov. 9 to regulate the end of the 6x1 work scale and to coordinate transitional rules across sectors.
- The text will require reduced working time and two weekly days off as set by the constitutional amendment and will promote collective bargaining for each sector to define specific shift models.
- Minister Luiz Marinho reported a sharp rise in workplace electoral-harassment complaints to more than 7,000 since the election and urged employers who threatened or dismissed workers for political reasons to publicly retract and apologize.
- Complaints are being reviewed by the Trabalho Auditoria Fiscal and the Public Labour Ministry, which can order retrations, reintegration or double pay for dismissed workers and impose fines or financing restrictions on employers found guilty.
- The decree announcement comes as formal hiring slowed, with Novo Caged showing 121,305 net formal jobs in September, a low for the month that the minister linked to the high Selic rate and weaker demand for some sectors.
