Government Launches Vijayawada Udan Yatri Cafe, Plans Nationwide Rollout

The low-cost counters price tea at ₹10, coffee at ₹20 to answer complaints about costly airport food.

Overview

  • Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu inaugurated the Udan Yatri Cafe at Vijayawada airport and was seen serving tea to passengers.
  • He said the cafes will be introduced at airports across India in phases as part of efforts to broaden access to air travel.
  • The initiative followed passenger feedback on exorbitant airport food prices, with earlier outlets already operating in Kolkata, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, Itanagar and Pune.
  • Since 2016, the UDAN scheme has added more than 630 routes linking tier-2 and tier-3 cities, according to the minister.
  • He also announced plans for new Vijayawada connections, including a proposed Singapore service and a three-month target to complete the new integrated terminal, with timelines and operations still developing.
