Overview

  • The ACC approved Mohan’s service extension until August 22, 2026 or until further orders under Fundamental Rule 56(d) and Rule 16(1A) of the All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
  • Govind Mohan, a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Sikkim cadre, took charge as Union Home Secretary in August 2024, succeeding Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
  • His original superannuation date of September 30, 2025 was superseded by the extension to maintain leadership stability at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

  • A seasoned bureaucrat, Mohan previously served as Union Culture Secretary and coordinated COVID-19 protocols and state liaison efforts.
