Government Confidence Index Drops 13.6% to 2.12, Lowest Under Milei

The UTDT August reading shows broad declines linked to shifting economic expectations.

Overview

  • The ICG fell to 2.12 in August, down 13.6% from July and 16.5% year over year, marking the lowest reading of the administration.
  • All five components declined, led by concern for the public interest (-18.2%), problem-solving capacity (-14.6%), spending efficiency (-13.2%), overall evaluation (-12.8%), and honesty (-9.9%).
  • Confidence was higher among men (2.42) than women (1.80) and stronger in the interior (2.39) than in CABA (1.76) and Greater Buenos Aires (1.68), with higher education levels showing more favorable views.
  • Young adults aged 18–29 recorded a sharp 24.4% monthly drop, eroding support in a group that had previously been more favorable to the government.
  • Conducted Aug. 1–14 by Poliarquía with 1,000 telephone interviews, the survey shows a wide gap by expectations—4.15 among economic optimists versus 0.56 among pessimists—and places Milei’s 20‑month average at 2.48, slightly below Macri’s and above Fernández’s.
