Government Confidence in Argentina Falls to 1.94, Lowest of Milei’s Tenure

The UTDT index’s drop to 1.94 reflects fallout from the ANDIS scandal plus a Buenos Aires defeat weeks before the October 26 legislative vote.

Overview

  • September’s ICG fell to 1.94, down 8.2% from August and sliding from 2.45 in July for a sharp two‑month decline.
  • All five components weakened, with the largest drops in concern for the public interest (-15.1%), general evaluation (-11.5%) and spending efficiency (-11.2%).
  • Survey fieldwork ran September 5–15, after the ANDIS corruption allegations and following La Libertad Avanza’s September 7 loss in Buenos Aires province.
  • Confidence is higher among men (2.12) than women (1.76), peaks among 18–29 year‑olds (2.47), and is stronger in the interior (2.13) than in CABA (1.78) or Greater Buenos Aires (1.62).
  • The gauge, closely watched as an electoral predictor, now sits 31.9% below the comparable 2017 reading under Macri and 23.1% above the 2021 level under Fernández as the October 26 vote approaches.
